WhatsApp 2.11.561 – First Update That Feature Voice Calls

So, at long last WhatsApp have decided to try to compete with some of the main competitors and release a version that includes voice calls. This is a major step forward for this app and it is a direct attempt to compete against the likes of Skype and Viber, but how does it compare? Are they doing it right or will they lose more ground?

The Voice Chat Update

With this latest update they have decided to release the concept of voice chat to Android users, but even this is after they have spent time testing it out on a select number of users. This in itself was a good idea as it did give them an opportunity to trial the technology to make sure that it all worked correctly from the outset. Of course they did need to do this because the last thing that they wanted was the call quality to be poor or to even not work in general because that would only send more people to their competitors.

How Does It Work?

The way it works is pretty straightforward. After updating your version of WhatsApp on your Android phone you will then see that there is a brand new button on the interface.

This button is the one that allows you to call other users that are also on WhatsApp and at least it is very easy to operate with the only requirement being that the other user also has the app. It does not matter where they are in the world as it will always be free and this means that they are copying the other apps out there that offer the exact same service.

However, remember that this is the most popular app of its kind, so you will be able to chat to so many people that you will never have the time to do anything else.

It is also important to point out that it is free because it uses the same data connections as the actual app itself. That means it does not use up your data limit, so there is no need to be concerned about running up a bill.

So, with this latest update you do indeed get the following:

  1. Free voice chat with other WhatsApp users no matter where they are in the world
  2. It uses the same data connection as the app hence it costing you nothing.
  3. You simply need to tap the button on the interface for it to work.
  4. The call connection is crystal clear at all times.
  5. Your call with the other user will not be dropped.
  6. They have done their research and trials and it works perfectly well.

So, if you have not gone ahead and got this latest update for WhatsApp, then you are advised to go ahead and do so right now. Of course the app itself is free, but it will give you access to their brand new voice chat feature providing you with completely free chat to other users no matter where they are located in the world.

When you consider that there are over 700 million users, that is going to equate to a lot of free phone calls all courtesy of this app.
